Saturday morning we packed up, said good-bye and headed home. Luckily, the trip home was pretty uneventful. The kids all traveled very well, considering the length of the trip. I think the two DVD players helped a lot. We had one set up in the back for the older boys and one in the front for Bryce and Annalise. It seemed to work out pretty well.
The first day we made it to Amarillo. We had decided to stay at our favorite Holiday Inn Express again, but it was full. Soon we found out that most of the hotels were full because of some custom car show that was going on. Finally we found one that had a room. It was far from nice, but it was a place to sleep. We went across the street for dinner at Red Lobster and then to bed. After breakfast, the kids checked out the pool, but it was really nasty so we skipped the swim and got back on the road.
Annalise shared my salad with me. By the end, she had pretty much taken it over. She seemed to be having fun with it.
William tried crab legs. He had as much fun playing with them as he did eating them. It took him a while to get through all of them, so once the other boys had finished their mac and cheese, John took them outside to run races (it was about 9pm by this time) while William finished up.
The next day when we pulled off in Albuquerque to stop for a potty break. The first couple of places didn't have working toilets. Finally, John saw a sign for The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History. He figured they would have a working toilet and stopped to ask if we could use it. They said of course. Well, once John entered the place, he knew it would be a fun place to visit. So he came back out to the car, told us about it, and we visited the museum as well as using their bathroom!
This place was great! They had many hands on activities for the kids and lots of neat things for all of us to see. Although this made the trip a little bit longer, we were all very glad that we stopped.
This exhibit was teaching about lightning. This was by far Bryce's favorite. He loved watching the spark go up and light the bulb at the top.
This was another favorite. It was like an x-ray machine.

The B 61 is pictured below with John and Annalise.
Both Honest Johns are pictured below.
They had a whole area outside that was full of old fighter airplanes. They are still working on the museum. I think it will be really great once it is finished.
We had to get a picture of this. I think they are missing something! It was fascinating to learn all about Uclear science and history. =) We highly recommend a visit if you happen to be in the Albuquerque area.
That night we stayed in Gallup, NM. When we arrived it was a beautiful 63 degrees and the rain had just stopped. It was so refreshing. We got a room at the hotel and then went over to Golden Coral for dinner. The boys loved all the choices...especially the desserts!
We arrived home Monday afternoon. Other than the huge mess that welcomed us as we walked through the door and the many obligations that awaited me in the coming days, it was good to be home. John went back to work, and the kids all returned to school the next day. It took a few days to get everything back to "normal", but soon we were back into the grove of real life! It was so wonderful to visit so much of our families and to spend some serious quality time with our immediate family! It is such a blessing to know that we will be with them for the eternities!
