A Day Out With William

Friday morning William had an appointment with an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist.  I had a respite worker stay with Annalise and Bryce, so once we dropped the other two kids off at school, it was just me and William.  We headed up to the appointment.   Turns out that he has inferior turbinate hypertrophy which explains why he has so much trouble breathing through and blowing his nose.  It has also made it very hard for him to get any decent sleep.  He is now on medication and steroids to try and reduce the swelling of the turbinates.  We go back in 3 weeks to see if it worked.  Hopefully there will be improvement or he may have to have it repaired surgically.

We had a few errands to run and William had ask if we could go out to lunch together, so we decided to just make a day of it.  It is so rare  that I get to have any one on one time with my older boys that I just couldn't pass up this opportunity.  So we ran errands, got William some new shoes and a haircut and had lunch at IHOP.  We then ran a few more errands and got back just in time to pick up the other boys from school.

Here is a picture of William with his styling new hair cut.  I love it!  Luckily, he does too.  He has refused to get his hair cut short for about a year saying that he thinks long hair is cool.  He didn't want to get his hair cut this time either, but since he will be receiving his Webelos badge and Arrow of Light award this week, I talked him into just getting it "trimmed up".  When we went in, the hair stylist asked me what we were going to be doing with his hair.  I told her that I like it really short and he wants it long, so we were looking for a happy medium.  She just looked at me for a minute so I asked William what he wanted done with it.  He said, "actually, I want that style that kind of sticks up in a curl like thing in the front".  The stylist explained this style to him and he said that yes, that is what he wanted.  She then looked at me and said, "how's that for a happy medium?"

I said, "perfect!"  So that is what she did.  I was really afraid that he was going to think it was too short, but he really likes it.  I think it looks so good on him!  Now I am hoping that Spencer will want to follow his big brother and let us cut his hair shorter as well!

I had a really great time hanging out with William.  He is growing up so fast.   It was fun to be able to focus my attention on him and hear some of the things he has going on in his mind right now.  What a great kid.  I feel very lucky to be his mom!

Tired

Oh how I wish that I was not so tired every single night.  At the end of the day, there is still so much that needs to be done as well as many things that I would like to do, and although it is finally nice and quiet and no one is needing me right this minute, I am just too stinkin' tired to do anything!  Once all the kids have been fed and are in bed, Bryce's night feed has begun, and medicines have been given, I am basically useless!

So my dirty dishes and dear, neglected blog...you will have to wait another day because I am falling asleep as I type!

Good night for now and sweet dreams...until the first child wakes up!
