You Brave American Soldiers

William and Jacob have been studying poetry the last couple of weeks in school. As their final assignment, they have to write a poem for each type of poetry they have studied. This is one that William wrote last night. He came up with the topic and words in about 20 minutes. When he first read it to me, it brought tears to my eyes.

You Brave American Soldiers

You brave American soldiers,
What love I have for thee
With your rifles on your shoulders
You're there to protect me

Your bravery is outstanding
America salutes you
We will be the last standing
And it's because of you

Off into the battle you ride
For your country you must protect
In these great wars men have died,
So I treat you with respect

Your bravery is outstanding
America salutes you
We will be the last standing
And it's because of you

America stands strong and proud
For the victories you have won
We praise you and sing loud
For the battle is now done

--William E. Clayton  (age 13)
